Window Art

Stained Glass Effect

In my dream house, there are elegant, elaborate stained glass windows in every room. There is also a jelly fish tank....and an endless supply of chocolate. But that's beside the point. The point being, that until I am old, rich and refined, I will probably not live in a house full of awe inspiring stained glass windows. But, this fun little project creates a simple effect that resembles stained glass.

You will need:
Tissue Paper
Plastic Wrap
Tape
Scissors
Glue

First you need to tape plastic wrap over the entire window surface.

Cut the tissue paper into small pieces of different shapes and sizes.

Then you can begin gluing the pieces onto the window. There is no rhyme or reason to the placement, just go to town.

This is an easy, but time consuming project. Put your kidlets to work helping or let them do it on their own. My son helped me finish this window and he was very proud of the way it turned out. I wouldn't call it an elegant masterpiece, but it's pretty and it makes me smile. :)

Now, how to go about making my own jellyfish tank?.........

My Baby Girl Is Turning 7!

Happy Birthday Kadence!

My firstborn child is celebrating birthday number seven. It seems impossible. It feels impossible. But any way you figure it, she comes out seven. It's painful watching your children grow up and in some ways grow out of you. But it's grandly satisfying as well. You see them transform before your eyes into these little people who think and feel and make their own choices. Parenting is a balancing act between guiding your children and letting them go. Many times, all you can do is just sit back and cheer them on as they leap, fall and cartwheel their way into trouble and triumph. It's a painstaking craft, the art of parenting. But the laughter, the love, the hugs and the unexpected tender moments make every minute worth it.

So, enough mushy stuff. Time for crafting!
When it comes to Birthday's, I have never been a huge fan of themes. Matching plates, hats, balloons and shirts are all well and good, if you are orderly and can afford it. I am not orderly, and spending that much money on a single day goes against every grain in my body. So, when it comes to party decor, I just go with the flow and do what works.

Here are the decoration/cake photos for Kadence's Birthday.

Tissue paper pom-poms are easy and fun to make. You can hang them or string them!

Every year, we plant a cutting bed of wildflowers in our backyard. That way a pretty boquet is only a few steps away.

The Happy Birthday Banner was fun to make using posterboard and scrapbooking paper.

I made this cake using two round 9 inch pans and by stacking and cutting them into a butterfly shape. For the middle of the butterfly, I used a twinkie. I decorated with purple frosting and lots of sprinkles...and candy of course!

Ready to party!
